Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Partner with Product Development team on Development Color Panel (DCP’s) & packaging mock up.
· Keep abreast of finishing trends and eco packaging seen in manufacturing.
· Develop clear understanding of WSI finish needs with product design, coating suppliers, and vendors accordingly.
· Collaborate with a global team of package and finish engineers to assure seasonal and yearly KPIs are met; Low Return & Replacement rates,
· Partner with PD team, SCO and QA on Container loading efficiencies, On-time shipping and Cost of Goods Savings requirements.
· Enforce the finish and packaging approval processes
· Corporate social responsibility, environmentally friendly packaging as well as a positive customer experience will be another objective for finish & package engineer.
Recommend effective processes and procedures to improve finish production workflow and results. Evaluate and appraise both coating supplier and vendor finish performance. Ensure same coating system in multiple vendors within same region all match. Review and approve refreshed finish samples, master control samples (for finish and distressing execution).
· Technical support, advice and guidance to sourcing teams and PD team on new finishes, on how to achieve desired new finishes, or modification of current ones.
· Work with vendors and QA to trouble shoot quality issue. Provide clear directions, support and technical advice to resolve issue.
· Document reports and clearly update sourcing, PD team of development process or quality CAP
· Manage panels and color library.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:
· Must have 3-5 years’ experience working within or managing a color lab/ R&D / production finishing line/ protecting furniture packaging experience.
· Complete familiarity with hanging line, pallet line, and roller line finishing systems, familiar with packaging line.
· Knowledgeable with furniture finishin system (NC, PU, Modified PU, AC, UV and water based systems.) as well as packaging system
· Have a strong background in packaging materials and structural packaging design that can survive ISTA transit test procedures, small parcel shipping environments as well as palletized/crated mechanical handling environments
· Very good knowledge of the various the materials and substrates such as wood or metals, their characteristics and reactions under a finishing process.
· Production experience in the application processes and related technologies. Good understanding of local manufacturing, vendor bases and production capabilities.
· Knowledge of the basics quality standards and testing requirements for finishing industry.
· Ability to lead and secure the requirements for meeting testing parameters
· Quality & Process Management experience preferred
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Proficiency in computer applications such as MS Office, AutoCAD, Inventor and/or Solid Works preferred, WMS knowledge, Access and Crystal knowledge a plus.
