About the Opportunity: Saxbys is seeking two Graduate Teaching Assistants for Fall of 2023. GTAs will work with the Academic Platforms team to expand the impact of the Saxbys Experiential Learning Platform through day-to-day course facilitation and assessment of the Saxbys Experiential Learning Microcredentials and Leadership Fellows Program.
The Saxbys Experiential Learning Microcredentials augment the Saxbys E.L.P., providing all student café leadership the opportunity to broaden their education and skills through tangible, professional credentials. This program blends the rigor of the academic approach and the application of corporate training with an important twist. The entire program is designed for students balancing college with work – not only are Saxbys microcredentials free, Saxbys is paying team members who participate, giving them the unique opportunity to earn as they learn. Learners engage with a range of business disciplines that are not tied to any specific major, giving them the chance to explore interests and practice business skills alongside and beyond their fields of study, all while boosting their résumés. Designed for students of all majors, Saxbys' microcredential courses bridge the theory of the classroom with the practice of the business world, giving learners a strong foundation that complements any degree program.
The Saxbys Leadership Fellows Program offers student cafe team members access to corporate mentorship, training, and development opportunities. Leadership Fellows engage with the Experiential Learning Microcredentials, professional and personal development workshops, and an online reflection-driven leadership course. The Leadership Fellows Program is designed to help café student team members build meaningful connections between classroom learning and their on-the-job experiences with Saxbys, and to build a strong talent pipeline across Saxbys' experiential learning cafes.
Saxbys Graduate Teaching Assistants facilitate and assess student work in both of these national online education programs. The GTA program is an exciting opportunity for current graduate students in any discipline to deepen and extend their teaching experience. Saxbys GTAs receive extensive training in skills that translate to both academic and corporate settings, as well as career mentoring from Saxbys team members with deep experience in academic and corporate settings.
Duties and Responsibilities: Course Facilitation & AssessmentSaxbys Graduate Teaching Assistants manage day-to-day facilitation and assessment of microcredentials for Saxbys undergraduate team members nationwide through Saxbys Canvas LMS page. GTAs respond promptly and in an attentive, detail-oriented manner to student discussion posts and assignments, assess and provide personalized comments to microcredential final projects, and field course-related questions from students. GTAs also facilitate LMS-related aspects of the Saxbys Leadership Fellows program, providing feedback to experiential learning reflections, and providing mentoring tools to Saxbys in-café operations leads. GTAs also have opportunities to participate in the annual Academic Platforms course content and design review process.Time CommitmentSaxbys Graduate Teaching Assistants commit to 10 hours of remote work per week, inclusive of a scheduled check-in and mentoring session, as well as continuing education events scheduled through the semester at mutually agreed upon times.
TrainingSaxbys Graduate Teaching Assistants are required to attend an in-person orientation program at the Saxbys Philadelphia Headquarters from August 28 - 30th, 2023. As part of the onboarding and training process, Graduate Teaching Assistants will enroll in and complete the relevant microcredential/s, spend time working behind the bar with students in a Saxbys Experiential Learning Café, visit our corporate Roastery, participate in a cafe grand opening event, and attend training sessions on teaching and learning. Travel, lodging, and per diem for this experience are sponsored by Saxbys.
