About Our Job

This position is responsible for supervising the Zoning Plans Review staff as well as performing Site and Development and Rezone/Special Exception reviews. In addition, this position will provide backup for reviewing permit plans for adherence to the Unified Development Code and providing customer service.
Job Description:
Overall supervision of the Zoning Plans Review staff. Plans, organizes, assigns, reviews and evaluates the work of the Zoning Plan Reviewers. Assists in the hiring and selection of staff. Trains staff in work procedures, policies and Reviews. Coaches, mentors, and develops staff. Prepares and conducts performance reviews.
Assists the Reviewers in answering questions relating to the Unified Development Code/plans review and customer inquiries. Responsible for Zoning reviews for Site and Development applications and Rezone/Special Exception petitions. Monitoring of performance measures for Zoning Plans Review staff to ensure review timeframes are met.
Back up assistance with reviews of permit plans to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and County laws, ordinances and regulations, to include determination of zoning districts, coastal construction zones, gulf beach setback lines, property identification numbers and addresses, as well as response to customer walk-ins, telephone calls, and emails relating to interpretation of Unified Development Code with regard to zoning districts, permitted land uses, setback and development standards information.

Work Hours:Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

About You

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of a High School Diploma and four (4) years related experience. Minimum of one-year supervisory experience is required (lead worker or acting in a supervisory capacity may be counted). An Associate’s Degree may be required with two (2) years of experience. A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferred. 1 - 2 years experience in Zoning Plans Review. Valid state driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:Basic knowledge and/or skill in GIS preferred. Proficient in County’s Land Information Management System.

Job Competencies:Basic understanding of Federal, State and County zoning laws, ordinances, and regulations; basic knowledge of legal descriptions; ability to read engineering and architect scales, ability to read/interpret basic maps, plans, aerials, and other related documents; ability to interpret and apply moderately complex principles, policies, practices; demonstration of accuracy, thoroughness, effectiveness and ability to meet deadlines; generation of cost saving ideas; accountability for the use of county-owned property and equipment; ability to learn quickly and be open to change, welcoming coaching and training opportunities; ability to prioritize assignments; display emotional intelligence; recognition of sensitive topics and refers questions to supervisor; maintain confidentiality, and ability to be an active and productive member of a work group. Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams), proficient in County’s Land Information Management System, familiar with GIS.
