Position Overview
Work Responsibilities
As part of the Engineering Strategy and Management Team, which works with other teams within Mercari Group to identify and solve challenges, you will be making improvements and creating mechanisms to ensure that the Engineering Organization’s resources are being used effectively
Ensuring that directors, managers, and team members exercise appropriate discretion for the organization to operate properly
Contacting the necessary departments or people in order to sort out indirect tasks that don’t have an owner
Bold Challenges
You will need to hold direct discussions with the Engineering Organization’s CTO, directors, and managers, as well as boldly push them to address issues when necessary
We are looking for someone able to create scalable mechanisms for an engineering organization that supports services used by more than 17 million customers a month
Someone who can take on the challenge of solving issues in an organization with people from all over the world
Technical Environment
G Suite (Spreadsheet, Document, Slide, etc.), Slack, GitHub
Required Experience
Shared belief in Mercari's mission and values
Being able to identify issues based on research, analysis, and feedback
Experience formulating and implementing plans to solve issues
Experience leading projects to solve organizational issues
Experience developing software for users (of any scale, whether public or private)
Reading, speaking, and listening skills necessary to work in Japanese and English
Preferred Experience
Experience communicating with accounting/finance teams regarding budget management
Experience working as an engineering manager

Problem-solving skills
Able to proactively look for answers on their own in order to solve issues
Has critical thinking skills necessary to analyze the cause of an issue
Leadership skills
Not only acts on their own, but also works with others to reach consensus, and takes the lead in order to improve the process where the issue occurred
Hard skills
Able to use Google Docs and Spreadsheets to create presentation documents from scratch
Understands general accounting terms (e.g., assets, apportionment, depreciation, timing of expenditure, etc.)
Able to understand terms and tools used by engineers (experience developing software of any scale, whether public or private)
Has reading, speaking, and listening skills necessary to work in Japanese and English

Full-timeProbationary period: First 3 months after joining the company. (During this period your contract conditions will be the same as that of a permanent employee.)

Scheduled working hours: 10 AM – 7 PM
Currently, due to COVID-19 pandemic, we have introduced a full-flex system without core time to increase the choice of working hours and allow for more flexible working styles.(*does not apply to all positions)

Annual salary paid in 12 installments (monthly)
