General Summary

Provide leadership and guidance to the Plant Services team while ensuring training and technical support for employees in the department and maximize efficiencies. Working on the second shift, the Plant Services Supervisor will be responsible for leading, managing and developing the Sanitation, Pest Control, and Waste managementprograms/systems/procedures/recordsfor the facility with a continuous improvement focus.
He/she will provide guidance, direction and coordinate all responsibilities for the Plant Services department which includes Safety, Quality and Food Safety, Training, Engagement, Performance, Waste Management, Budget and Cost Management etc. Position will help manage a set of matrix relationships within facility Quality, Production and Supply Chain, and influence senior management on alignment of strategies, annual objectives, and project plans. This position achieves the above objectives through the managing of a Sanitation leaders, as well as a sanitation team of 40 plus skilled hourly associates, crewed primarily on second shift, to provide sanitation services within a 240,000 square foot frozen food manufacturing facility.

Principal Accountabilities

Provides technical expertise and leadership in Sanitation, SSOP’s, Sanitary Design, Pest Control, CIP and COP systems, Waste Management, Confined Space, Allergen cleaning, Training, Risk Assessment programs and policies
Establish acceptable guidelines for Plant Services employees to procedural and protocol adherence to sanitation/food safety programs ensuring compliance with all company and regulatory product food safety standards, quality standards, sanitation standards, employee safety and environmental standards. Ensure that Good Manufacturing Practices and Kosher requirements are followed. As well as making sure all Plant Services employees follow company’s safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment where required, meeting all safety objectives set up for the department.
Develops and implements SSOP's and sanitation work instructions, drives continuous improvement initiatives while keeping abreast on new technology, methods and regulations relating to food plant sanitation methods and technology. Provides coaching, training and troubleshooting for Plant Services personnel.
Oversees the scheduling of a crew of 36 skilled hourly associates performing sanitation tasks associated with production demands and Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).
Develops and implement master sanitation schedule and monitor performance of the established tasks against the schedule. Plant Services' crew is scheduled to cover a 24-hour operation.

Collaborates with Quality Assurance, Production, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Maintenance to develop functional sanitation objectives and plant metrics, as well as communications of, and compliance with, Sanitation policy, expectations and requirements.
Coordinate and oversee all outside vendors as they relate to the Plant Services Department; Pest Control Technicians, Chemical Vendors, Production supplies, Contractors for building and grounds and Waste Management, etc.
Participates in plant inspections and audits to verify plant compliance to Pepperidge Farm, FDA and SQF requirements. Communicates status of food safety, sanitation and pest controls finding.
Prepares and manages annual Sanitation budget, including direct and indirect labor. Orders necessary supplies, equipment and chemicals for the entire plant via the SAP platform, with a focus on cost control.

Job Complexity

Help Lead and manage Downingtown's Plant Services team including creating strategic and specific goals and objectives for all Plant Services employees in food safety, sanitation, employee safety policies and procedures; creating and revising existing documents; determining food safety and sanitation training needs, developing training programs, and executing them for all Downingtown employees; maintaining document control databases; and coordinating document reviews.
Help Develop Sanitation and Pest Control strategies unique to a frozen food environment to improve and/or maintain food safety and quality standards. Develop Insect, Rodent and Bird Control Plans.
Help Develop, Implement and Standardize Master Sanitation Scheduled, SSOP's and sanitation Work Instructions, driving continuous improvement and providing recommendations for new technology and methods to improve cleaning practices at the plant. Monitor performance of the established tasks, troubleshoot Quality, Sanitation and Pest Control issues.
Work with Plant QA and Plant Operations to develop and establish sanitation program and standards that are consistent with Pepperidge Farm standards, GMP, all Federal, State and Regulatory requirements, Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Standards, food safety standards, employee safety and environmental standards
Provide input to management, engineers and plant maintenance regarding practices, equipment, sanitary design that impact sanitation including the capital budgetary considerations.
Facilitate the implementation of CAPA for non-conformances and root cause evaluation from internal and external audits, regulatory audits, environmental monitoring, and cleaning validation methods such as ATP and Allergen validation.
Co-ordinate and participate in the environmental program within the corporate structure regarding Waste Management Controls.
Track and recommend costs in accordance to approved budget and provide updates to plant and corporate management.
Manage Outside vendors and contractors related to plant operation needs, pest control, plant services, sanitation and waste management
Assist in the development of food safety and sanitation training programs and cross functional training ofemployees.
Lead Daily Sanitation Directional meetings (DDS) and prepares the Plant services department for HPO implementation.
Serve as a HACCP Steering Team member and fulfill duties as assigned by the Plant Quality Manager who is the Steering Team leaders.

Job Specifications

Minimum education required: Associates Degree from a College or University. Consideration may be made for non-degreed candidates with relevant work experience.
Education desired: Science or related field.
Years of relevant experience: 4-8 years in food industry, sanitation experience preferred
Knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired:
Knowledge and understanding of Master Sanitation practices, cleaning practices, CIP systems and sanitary design.
Ability to evaluate, develop, standardize, and implement Master Sanitation schedules, Pest Control programs and Waste management programs.
Experience in the food industry plant environment with a solid understanding of manufacturing processes. Strong hands-on Quality Systems and field skills, with ability to act as a technical resource for operations, procurement, R&D and QA. Must interface with all departmental management, as well as Corporate Quality Assurance personnel.
Knowledge and general acumen of applicable regulatory standards (FDA, SQF).
Strong people supervisory skills.
Strong communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
Computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Software, able to master other software such as SAP, Kronos, etc.
Flexibility to adjust working days and hours to provide direction and supervision for a 24 hour Sanitation Department of 40 plus skilled hourly associates.
Has a working knowledge of all personnel and food safety requirements
Practical knowledge and application of food safety principles (ex. Regulatory, HACCP, GMPs, SQF, AIB, food microbiology)
Strong interpersonal skills and leadership abilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Working Conditions

Up to 5 % travel.
The employee is working out in the manufacturing environment 70 - 80% of the time and is exposed to machinery, heat, changes in elevation, wet floors, cleaning chemicals, interfacing with powered industrial equipment as a pedestrian, and high noise levels on a routine basis.
