Position Overview
Work Responsibilities
The Risk Management Team manages risk specific to our payment business and credit business, and in the future, it will manage risk for the crypto-asset related business that we are currently looking into. Additionally, the team is in charge of managing integrated risk for the entire company. In aiming to develop new, never-before-seen financial services, we need to respond to risk with agility and think flexibly about our approach. This means basing our risk management on tried and true methods while thinking up new forms of risk management more suitable to Merpay. As a Risk Management Specialist, you will work together with us to question precedent and prior knowledge, creating risk management which supports our bold challenges. Specifically, you will:
Plan and propose risk management policies
Build a risk management structure and create risk management regulations
Propose countermeasures based on risk assessments and their results
Monitor risk mitigation strategies
Administrate meetings regarding risk management
Perform other general tasks related to risk management

Challenge yourself to help Merpay build a vision for a new kind of risk management covering diverse business areas while continuing to demonstrate your experience in risk management original risk management experience.
Propose a brand new kind of risk management matched to Mercari, a marketplace app with over 18M monthly users.
Required Experience
A strong, shared belief in Mercari and Merpay’s missions and values
Five or more years experience working in risk management, regardless of industry
A desire to use flexible thinking to build a new kind of risk management which isn’t beholden to how financial institutions have traditionally done things
Preferred Experience
Knowledge and experience regarding risk management which is deeply related to Merpay’s payment and credit businesses
Experience in risk management at a FinTech company and/or startup
Experience working at not only big corporations, but at startups as well
Experience working in risk consulting or risk advisory at a consulting or auditing firm

Whether the candidate is the kind of person who actively seeks out work and creates tasks that need to be done
Whether the candidate will take matters into their own hands (candidates who only want to give orders and not take action themselves will not fit with Mercari/Merpay)
Whether the candidate can think for themselves to come up with original ideas (candidates with a strong fixed viewpoint—that risk management should be a certain way because that’s what financial institutions do or that’s how it was done at their previous bank/securities job—will not fit in)
