Summary:
The ASPCA is seeking an individual who is excited to be part of a committed team working to support felines in the Los Angeles area. The ASPCA LA Foster Program provides temporary care for at-risk kittens and cats who need extra care and support until they can find their loving home. The Contract Driver, while not an employee of the ASPCA, will work collaboratively and effectively with internal and external stakeholders to further the ASPCA’s ultimate desired outcome that all animals live good lives.
This contracted position is responsible for driving ASPCA owned vehicles to assist with the transport of animals and supplies between designated shelters, foster volunteer homes, veterinary offices, and community locations throughout Los Angeles and surrounding counties. The Contract Driver will be responsible for securing animals during transport and getting them to their destination safely and in a timely manner. In addition to the crucial task of care and transport of cats, this position is responsible for stocking the vehicle, monitoring the inventory, maintaining logs, cleaning vehicles and, on occasion, delivering the vehicle for maintenance.
The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of driving experience, will be comfortable driving a large van, and will have at least two years of personal, volunteer, or professional animal handling experience.

*Exact days may differ week to week but general schedule/availability would be Tuesday-Saturday

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Animal Management and Transport 50%
• Manage onsite loading and unloading of cats on transport vehicles
• Ensure animals are secured in their carrier in the vehicle
• Handle animals in the least restrictive and most stress-free way possible in line with Fear Free principles
• Examine animals for obvious signs of illness or injury and communicate as described in protocols
• Triage the animal load and unload
• Provide care for animals on transport
• Provide spot cleaning for animals on transport
• Learn to recognize illness or distress and how to manage minor issues
• Communicate with ASPCA Veterinarian, shelter staff and volunteers regarding animals needs
• Maintain communication with supervisor at all times regarding successful completion of transports or any delays
• Provide excellent customer service with shelter staff, veterinarian partners, volunteers, and community members at all locations

Administrative Duties 20%
• Responsible for receiving and transferring of cats and ensuring that the corresponding electronic and hardcopy paperwork is complete and correct
• Provide accurate and responsible oversight of fleet card and corresponding receipts
• Make copies and stock inventory with forms if requested
• Complete all necessary forms for vehicle maintenance and repair and any necessary logs
• Capable of working remotely with professionalism and positive outlook
• Capable of managing electronic equipment and learning new programs
• Be comfortable working in Adobe, Excel, and cloud-based document sharing platforms

Stocking, Cleaning, Maintenance 20%
• Stock vehicles and storage units with supplies as directed
• Thoroughly clean and disinfect interior of vehicles in cab and animal compartment
• Assist with minor repairs and maintenance as needed
• Assist in delivery of supplies to various ASPCA and partner locations
• Provide medical-grade disinfection of vehicles, cages, carriers and equipment in a variety of weather conditions
• Communicate vehicle maintenance needs to Manager
• Maintain organized, clean and disinfected workplace
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Safety 10%
• Safely drive a variety of vehicles in varying weather conditions and road types
• Keep track of high value equipment entrusted to drivers (check out during morning shift & check in during evening shift)
• Perform daily inspections to exterior of vehicles for damage
• Park and maneuver vehicles
• Utilize provided PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)
• Safely manage animals to maximize personal safety and safety of animals and teammates
• Understand OSHA regulations and requirements on the vehicle
• Willingness to participate in additional driver trainings

Qualifications:
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a clean driving record
• Demonstrated driving history of 5+ years (Motor Vehicle Reports are required)

Qualifications:
Ability to be part of a dynamic team, Basic computer skills, Experience driving large vehicles preferred, Extensive iPhone and iPad skills using Excel, Adobe, all GPS navigation systems, and additional internet-based programs •, Must be able to lift 40-plus pounds repetitively, Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends, Must have excellent customer service skills, Must have strong interest in animal welfare., Strong animal handling skills are preferred, The ideal candidate will have access to a personal vehicle

Education and Work Experience:
High School Diploma (Required)
Fear Free certified or obtained within 60 days of employment, Personal, volunteer or professional experience handling cats preferred but not required
