Position Overview
Work Responsibilities
We are looking for a compliance specialist to lead overall compliance work for Merpay’s payment, credit, and crypto-asset trading businesses.
The Compliance Team’s mission is “strengthen and continue to grow the compliance framework which forms the bedrock of Mercari and Merpay’s business.” This means our work goes beyond individual organizations and teams.
To support Merpay’s business, the Compliance Team must uphold laws like the Payment Services Act and Installment Sales Act, as well as appropriately manage and control compliance risk inherent in its business. As Compliance Specialist, you will promote a wide range of compliance measures and initiatives, as well as effectively lead and support the management and business teams using your knowledge and experience in compliance.

Utilize creativity to handle compliance risk and solve compliance issues for a FinTech company powered by cutting-edge technology
Gain experience working together with the management and business teams to establish compliance frameworks and start a new business
Manage compliance risk as it arises for Mercari’s marketplace app (17M users per month) and other businesses, as part of a small team of dedicated professionals
Required Experience
Strong, shared belief in Mercari and Merpay’s missions and values
Experience working in compliance for a bank, payment service provider, credit card company, securities company, FX service provider, crypto-asset exchange, etc. (5 years experience or more)
Deep knowledge and understanding of how to manage compliance risk
Strong interest in and understanding of finance-related business (especially FinTech)
Preferred Experience
Experience working at a venture or startup
Experience communicating with and conducting inspections alongside relevant authorities
Project management experience
Experience streamlining work tasks using RPA or other methods
Screening Criteria
Has a strong, shared belief in Mercari and Merpay’s missions and values
Capable of going bold and possessing a strong sense of responsibility in regards to their work
Proactive and capable of thinking independently for the good of the team
Possess excellent communications skills which can push organizations and projects forward

Scheduled working hours: 10 AM – 7 PM
