MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Under the direct supervision of the Principal Scientist (currently the incumbent Indonesia Country Coordinator), the Climate Change, Green Growth and Land-Use Analyst supports Senior Scientists in designing and implementing appropriate tools for land use planning for multiple environment services including trade-offs analysis. The position is specifically working on ongoing bilateral grants like EU, DANIDA, WRI and BMU projects, however, it is anticipated to be actively engaged in forthcoming projects.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Research:
a) Lead a team of GIS, natural resource specialist, modeler and foresters in the conceptualization, design and conducting studies on climate change mitigation and adaptation policies and inclusive, integrated and informed land-use planning for multiple environmental services such as carbon storage, watershed protection, biodiversity maintenance
b) Design and implement appropriate tools for land use planning for multiple environment services including trade-offs analysis
c) Publish peer-reviewed and other publications based on the research, and ensure high quality technical project reports produced by the team
d) Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team in producing, preparing and analyzing high quality spatial and socio-economic data necessary to address informed land use planning for multiple environmental services
e) Lead the team in capacity strengthening programs of NARS and local stakeholders in developing policy options for land use planning for multiple environmental services, including climate change mitigation
f) Bridge the content-side (from demand side, clients, users) with the technical- side (developers, programmers, specialist)
g) Contribute to develop IPG of tools, concepts, analysis and lessons learnt from the studies Represent ICRAF or Theme or team in the forum and meetings externally, as necessary
Theme and Project Coordination:
h) Lead the team and ensure proper theme and project resources management (staff, assets, financial resources) to achieve project deliverables (goals and objectives) as per funding agreement and approved project proposal
i) Coordinate with other themes and units within the institution for seamless teamwork
j) Timely theme and project deliverables (trainings, synthesis, tools, publications) and reporting as mandated by donor/s or ICRAF governance.
k) Ensure proper implementation of research ethics, partnership management, project research data management
l) Adequate publication and dissemination – with Programme Management Unit develop project communication strategy and dissemination of program outcomes, also corporate communication whenever needed e.g. technical content for public awareness or web information.
m) The position is expected to closely monitor and supervise specific-project- focused- activities of several other positions to ensure delivery of expected outputs. Some of these are the Remote Sensing GIS Assistant, NRM Tool Modeler and Land Use Research Assistants.
n) Refer to management authorization table for project implementation (e.g. contracts, approvals).
Resource mobilization
o) Lead and/or contribute in proposal development for relevant research topics related to sustainable landscape.
p) Lead and/or support communication and coordination processes with donor related to proposal development and other resource mobilization effort.
MINIMUM REQUIRED ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• PhD degree in land use and regional planning, or forestry or natural resource management, or geospatial analysis or information science with a minimum of 5-year experience, or master’s degree with a minimum of 10-year experience and exceptional writing skills.
• Strong quantitative technical and analytical skills in land use planning, natural and social sciences, apps and tool development.
• Knowledge in Indonesian land use policies and climate change policies.
• Good understanding of people-environment interaction.
MINIMUM RELEVANT WORKING EXPERIENCE
• Competent and experienced in environmental, climate change and land use planning, familiarity with technology advancement related to NRM.
• Experience in working with not-for-profit organizations and government institutions.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

• Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills in English and Indonesian.
